Tigist Yihune is a 12-year-old girl. She is in 4th grade and has one sister, Kalkidan, who is 3-years-old. Tigist and Kalkidan came from Gojam, nearly 400km far away from Addis Ababa. They have both lost both of their parents and are now orphans. Their father died when they were very young and their mother passed away two years ago. The last two years they've lived with their grandma, who is very poor and struggles to make ends meet. They live very close to the dump in the plastic tarp compound. Tigist is very bright and wants to be a doctor when she grows up. The family's biggest need is house rent, food and school supplies.
Daniel Zewudu is a 10-year-old boy. He has one brother, Mengestu, who is 8-years-old. Both kids are in second grade. When they grow up, Daniel wants to be a scientist and Mengstu wants to be a pilot. They boys lost their mother a year ago because of breast cancer. She was very sick and in bed for 7 years. Their father struggles to find work and rarely has enough income to take care of them. Sometimes he has to leave the kids to go look for work. He is a very good dad but because of the job and financial struggles, he is not able to be with them all the time. Their biggest needs are food, house rent, and school supplies.
