Our Story

In January of 2017, Darci and Shaydon Burke were visiting the community of Korah, Ethiopia on a humanitarian trip.  Throughout that day they had been handing out clothing and monetary donations to the people of Korah. At the end of the day as they were loading the vans to leave, a little girl walked up to them.  Her clothes and shoes were torn and tattered. She was wearing one shoe that was too big, and one that was too small. They were only being worn to cover the bottom of her little feet. Darci, Shaydon, and the team they were with had already given out all of the donations that they had brought for the day and felt bad they had nothing to give this little girl, especially a pair of new shoes.

Just as they were getting ready to leave, Shadyon remembered a pair of shoes that he had put in the van that morning. He saw them as they were leaving their guesthouse that morning and felt inspired to bring them. He tucked them under his seat and forgot about them until this little girl had shown up.

He brought the shoes out and put them on her.  They were pink and they were the perfect size for her! She was thrilled! They left that day knowing god had a hand in that, and his love for that little girl was shown through a pair of pink shoes.

Over a year and a half later, Darci and shay could not get this little girl off their mind. They hoped she was being taken care of and had her needs met.

In may of 2018 they were once again in Korah doing humanitarian work and also hoping to find this little girl. The task seemed daunting with over 200,000 people who live there and no idea who she was or where she lived.

But, with the help from local residents they found her!! They gave her a new pair of pink shoes and were able to meet her mom, help them move to a nicer home, and see that their needs were being met.  It was a day that they will never forget.

Inspired by this little girl, and countless other trips to Korah seeing the extreme poverty, Darci started a non-profit organization, called, Korah Kids. Her hope is to bring awareness to and serve the people of this community through income generation, sponsorship programs, feeding programs, rent and medical support, and hopefully one day a school in Korah.
