Hiwot and Koket

Hiwot and Koket are sisters, ages 21 and 19, who have spent most of their lives in Addis Ababa after losing both of their parents at a young age. They were brought to the city by extended family members but eventually lost contact and now have no known relatives. After years of instability, moving house to house with neighbors or strangers that would take them in, as well as living on the streets, they’ve now been living together in Korah for about three years. 

Both girls haven’t been able to find stable, long-term work and struggle to make ends meet each month. Both sisters are determined, resilient, and eager to continue their education through vocational training, creating stability and independence for their future. We are looking for a sponsor who can support the girls through rent and vocational school assistance. By sponsoring Hiwot and Koket, you will help champion them on their new journey — helping them break an intergenerational cycle of poverty and pioneer a new path.

We anticipate this sponsorship need to be around eighteen months. Your contribution creates real, lasting change in these sisters lives and helps them move closer to stability, self-sufficiency, and a brighter future.
